Wonersh Parish Council 2024/25 Precept Rise (Council tax contribution)
Dear residents,
You will have recently received notification from Waverley Borough Council that the Parish Council precept will significantly rise by above 25% depending on the property band you are in. In case you missed earlier advice on this, it was reported to you last year in the Parish Winter 2023 Newsletter, an extract of which is repeated below.
The main component of this rise is the interest on the public works loan to purchase approximately half of the Barnett Fields and Woods between Wonersh and Blackheath (the other half being funded by donations), plus the interest on the anticipated public works loan drawdown in 2024 of the Parish Council contribution to the redevelopment of the Arbuthnot Hall in Shamley Green.
We will cover this further at the 16 May 2024 Annual Parish Assembly to be held from 7.30 pm in Blackheath Village Hall.
In the meantime, do let us know if you have any questions.
Kind regards,
Lisa Davison (Clerk)
Anthony Shutes (Chair)
On behalf of Wonersh Parish Council
Extract from Winter 2023 Newsletter COUNCIL TAX PRECEPT :
"The Parish Council precept - the proportion of the Council tax going to the Parish Council for the current year ending 5th April 2024 is £98,500. The Parish Council has submitted the proposal to increase this to cover three items: £19,000 to be paid on the Public Works Loan, £5,500 to make up for the loss of the Grant for maintenance of the 'open areas' leased land from Waverley, and some £3,000 increase to contribute to rising costs (i.e. a 3% general increase). While this represents an estimated 28% increase in the precept, our Parish precept will still be about average for households across Waverley. The loan interest is equivalent to £11 per annum increase on a band D property, and assumes drawdown a further £100,000 from the Loan Board in 2024, in preparation for the planned development of the Arbuthnot Hall in Shamley Green. While the 2024 drawdown interest rate will not be known until the date it is approved, we are targeting to keep within the £12-15 p.a band D target included in the consultation."
